Steve Edwards' funeral

Sunday 19 November 2023

We were sad to hear of Steve Edwards' death of recent. Steve was the Regional Finance Officer for CAMRA and sadly died in early November. We've been provided with the following information, should you wish to pay your respects:

The service itself will be at 10:45 on Friday 1st December in the Charter Chapel at Canley Crematorium, 180 Cannon Hill Rd, Coventry CV4 7DF.
The wake will be in the Twisted Barrel Taphouse in Fargo Village just off Far Gosford Street. Twisted Barrel is easy to find on your left through a covered seating area This is a 100% vegan operation with wonderful beers. We will be laying on vegan samosas and curry from a favourite local supplier. If this isn't for you, other food is available within Fargo Village and along Far Gosford Street but please do not bring any food into the brewery.
It is easy to get to both places by public transport or taxi. The Fargo Village car park is a bit tricky to find, being across on the other side of Sky Blue Way from the village.
Arriving by train
Bus route from station to crematorium Catch the No. 11 bus from just outside the station on Warwick Road. This is best reached from the upper floor in the station. The bus will be at the Station Interchange stop a few minutes earlier, this is reached from the ground floor of the station via a tunnel under Warwick Road. Get off at the Centenary Road stop and take short 10 min walk to the Crem
To get to Twisted Barrel for the wake, catch a number 11 back into Coventry and stay on it as far as the Starley Gardens stop (CU5) on Cox Street. Cross the road to the stop opposite Starley Gardens stop (CU4) a short way down the other side of the road by the big grey elephant building. From here, a number of buses, 7,8,9,13,85, will take you near the tap house - NB the 12X does not go the right way. You will probably be with others who know the way so follow the crowd from the Crem!
Some go up Far Gosford Street where there is a stop at the top before some traffic lights just past the entrance into Fargo Village on the RHD side of the road - you won't miss it!
Some go up Sky Blue Way and you need to get off at the stop before the lights at the top of the road, cross over the road and down Far Gosford Street where you will find the entrance to Fargo Village a short way down on the left.
If you decide to use taxis, the rank for getting to the crematorium is to your right out of the station's main entrance, local people at the service will have taxi numbers to ring to get to the wake.
Arriving by coach or bus
Catch the No 11 from Pool Meadow bus station and follow instruction as above.
Arriving by car
I think it is most likely that you will approach along the A45 either along the northward carriageway or the southward.
Getting back to Coventry
There are plenty of buses back to Coventry from Sky Blue Way, some of the No 9s go all the way to the train station. All of them go back to the Starley Gardens stop where you can catch buses to the station.Either way, there will be people at the wake who can help with bus times and walk anyone unsure to the stop. Almost all go to Pool Meadow if you've come by bus/coach.
There will be a Book of Condolences for people to mark how they feel about Steve - this will be taken to the Isle of Man for the strewing April 3rd 2024 and to the CAMRA members' weekend in Dundee later in April.
See you on the 1st - please do join us online if you can't be here in person, and have a glass of something suitable to raise in celebration of his life.
