The Beacon Hotel in Sedgley has won the runners-up accolade in CAMRA's new Heritage Pub Revival Award. The national winner was The North Star in Steventon, Oxfordshire, which dates back to the 15th Century and was closed for nine months for extensive work on the Grade II listed building.

The award recognises pubs and pub operators who have revived the fortunes of pubs on CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Interiors by preserving historic features and thus benefitting the business and having a positive impact on the local community.

Dudley and South Staffordshire CAMRA nominated The Beacon Hotel, a Grade II listed pub and home of the Sarah Hughes Brewery.

Judges praised the high quality of the work to convert a staff sitting room to an additional customer area and the sensitive replacement of the old conservatory.

Beacon owner Simon Massey said: "This award is an incredible recognition of all the hard work that goes into keeping The Beacon Hotel in its current condition. Thanks to all the staff for their hard work and the craftsmanship of the builders for making this possible."

Work on the Beacon continues with a new cask store and cleaning building - in keeping with the Victorian pub and brewery - currently being built and plans to create a new garden room at the rear of the pub in the pipeline.
