Wednesday 21 October 2026

The Beacon Hotel in Sedgley has received its latest award.

The pub in Bilston Street was runner-up in CAMRA's new Heritage Pub Revival Award. The national winner was The North Star in Steventon, Oxfordshire.

CAMRA awards director Shelly Bentley presented the award to Beacon and Sarah Hughes Brewery owner Simon Massey in the pub's new conservatory on Saturday, October 17.

The award recognises pubs and pub operators who have revived the fortunes of pubs on CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Interiors by preserving historic features and thus benefitting the business and having a positive impact on the local community

Dudley and South Staffordshire CAMRA nominated The Beacon Hotel, a Grade II listed pub and home of the Sarah Hughes Brewery. for the conservatory project and conversion of a staff room to a new area for customers.

Shelly said that the judges had looked for pubs where improvement work had improved their financial position and had an impact on the community.

She said the design of the conservatory blended in beautifully with the rest of the pub.

Great lengths had been taken by the architect and builders to sensitively replace the conservatory.

"CAMRA wishes the team here at the Beacon every success in the future and hope the extra seating is appreciated by the customers, especially with the busy Christmas period coming up," she said.

Mr Massey thanked all his staff and the craftsmen from the local area who worked on the project.

"This is a community pub and we have pride in everything about Sedgley and bringing the local community together," he explained.

The conservatory and the new bullding at the rear of the pub, which will open soon and house a cask wash, cold store and workshop, were designed by architect Andy Law of HPC Design, Sedgley. The work was carried out by Whites Building, of Kinver
