See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.

An outstanding case study of pub protection; local campaign group 'Friends of Haden Cross' picked up a well-deserved Bronze certificate in CAMRA's 'Pub Saving Award' 2017 having been nominated by the local branch. The group has played and continue to play a pivotal role in ensuring the sustainability of the Haden Cross as a much-loved community pub. Attempts to convert the site into a supermarket and, more recently, residential dwellings, have been rejected as a result of well-composed grassroots activism. An ex-Marston's outlet; the Haden Cross has been given a new lease of life by local father and son, Stan and Karl Gardner. Following a top-to-bottom refurbishment including the installation of a roaring real fire, the pub-cum-restaurant reopened to thankful local punters in November 2017. Bathams Best Bitter is the regulars' choice but a small number of other locales are always available, such as, Holden's Golden Glow and Wye Valley HPA. In addition to the mainstream keg products, popular bottled drinks, and the other usual suspects across the bar, there is a "Gin Palace" menu from which any double gin, Fever-Tree mixer, and garnish can be ordered for £7.95. There may be small supplements on speciality or rare gins. There is a diverse food offering which is sure to appeal to customers of all ages - ranging from toasties through to a speciality smokehouse menu. Rotating daily specials offer something a little different whilst children are accommodated for with a menu for minors. Please note and respect that children are welcome only when dining.
